Colin Powell supports lifting of Don't Ask Don't Tell

"Retired Army Gen. Colin L. Powell, who opposed allowing gay men and lesbians to serve openly in the armed forces when he was the nation's top military officer, said Wednesday that he supports efforts to lift the ban on their service. " Quote from Washington Post.Com

Now doesn't that put a monkey wrench in the wheels of the Hateful Republican party hacks who have harped over and over on the General's past statements supporting "Don't Ask Don't Tell."
I see the walls of the resistance cracking...Republican Senators are now softening their stance, to save face, against Gay people serving openly in the military...and they say President Obama is not having an impact in a positive way...ha!
Skilled personnel is hard to come by and even harder to keep, with the thousands of skilled Gay personnel that have been let go, our military is in a really bad state.
We have lost skilled persons in just about every area of the military, including translators, snipers, and many specialists.
We need this Don't Ask Don't Tell policy to be repealed quickly, now... not in a year or longer...
There has been approximately 13,500 dismissals since 1993.

  1. It would really cool one day if we could look at goofball policies like DADT and say "Hey. This is stupid. Let's end it now." And it would be ended.

  2. Always thought Colin was a Dem at heart.

  3. Truth...we may need a Dem party with some real backbone to see that..it will be a long time coming tho..

  4. Add Powell to Mullen (a Bush appointee) and Gates (another Bush appointee) and, yeah, you bet, it's really starting to look dark for the proponents of this. And, please, Teeluck, get this, even Steven Hayes and Charles Krauthammer over there at Fox are now saying that it's time to end this. Enough is enough seems to be the overall consensus.

  6. The Rushpubliscums are pandering to their Jesusistani base of Klanservative bigots. I hope they keep doing it, so the idiotic "independent" voters who want to "send a message" understand just exactly what the Rushpubliscum message actually IS.

  7. JR...couldn't agree with you more, they know not what they do...the independents are stabbing themselves in their own backs to follow and vote for the Repuglickers, eight years of Bush was not enough??

  8. Thanks :) I appreciate good writing and the correct point of view :)

I also appreciate a good sparring, but most of the Rushpublosphere has banned me :(

  9. If you step on a landmine it makes no difference whether you're straight or not. Your bits will be in bits regardless.

  10. Yeah, Teeluck. Look at who's smiling and who's not! I don't feel their pain!

  11. Of course they're all for it now.

They are desperate for soldiers and any type will do as long as they can walk and fire a gun.

  12. Hey JR, the Repuglickers won't appreciate you unless you let them think you are dumb enough to believe them

FD they have maybe saved thousands of good people from that fate by dismissing them for being Gay...bitter sweet

Emily thank you for that link, it's great

Suzan, that is so right, and they are so stupid because the skilled people they let go is a great irreplaceable loss, causing our troops to be at greater risk

  13. One job category in particular that's been decimated by DADT is translators, especially translators fluent in Arabic. I wonder how many intelligence transmissions were missed or misinterpreted, just because it was so important to get them homasexials out of the military.

  14. This is largely a generational thing. The young people think (and, yes, this time, justifiably so) that the old people are crazy.

  15. Tom you are so right

Will, ever since we were young...we knew they were crazy right? :)

  17. I'm divided on Powell. I don't know whether to forgive him for not standing up to the Bush Admin when it came time for Lil'Georgie to re-fight daddy'bush's war, or forgive him because he's not a total asshat like 99.9% of the republican hierarchy is now. And yeah, the old people are crazy...and it's time for them to roll over and leave it up to the sane.
